FIX THE COUNTRY POSSIBILITY OF DEGENERATING INTO STATE OF ANARCHY-MAJOR WRITES

According to Bob Marley “You can fool some people sometimes but you can’t fool all the people all the time”.

When custodians of state resources decide to use them for personal gain at the detriment of the larger populace; insurgency, civil revolution, demonstrations, civil disobedience, riots, protest, strikes etc., becomes the order of the day.

Ghana, a country endowed with abundance of almost all the natural resources God has given to mankind, with a population of just thirty (30) million and yet its citizens mostly the youth continue to live in tatters and abject poverty as a result of failure on the part of leadership of successive governments.

If Dr. Kwame Nkrumah were to be alive today, I would have asked if he still stand by his words that “the black man is capable of managing his own affairs”.

To borrow the words in the book of revelation, I looked and I saw the possibility of the emergence of a strong wave in the shape of the Arab Spring occurring in the West of Africa with starting point in Ghana.

I do not seek to insight the youth against authorities of state neither do I have any predetermined agenda against any government. But truth must be told, the increasing population of the youth of this country without employment is so devastating that it will take only civil revolution and continual demonstration for the voices of the youth to be heard. Otto Von Bismarck once said, “The great questions of the day will not be settled by means of speeches and majority decision but by iron and blood” During electioneering campaigns, we are being promised honey and milk but in return what we see is political corruption, human rights violation, energy crisis, sanitation issues, poverty, inflation, kleptocracy and the commercialization of politics across the length and breadth of the country.

Many of these factors and the others triggered the spontaneous reaction within the Arab world in the early 2010s and so must serve as a word of caution to the government of the day.

If We Want Competent MMDCEs, Then We Have to Vote-Major Quizzes.

A Political Activist and social commentator, Mr. Benjamin Sarbeng widely known as Major, says the time is right for the election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) considering the high number of persons applying for those positions.

He made this statement in an interview with Wenchi based Ewiase FM which was monitored by Klassic News.

According to him, conducting an election is the surest way of getting competent individuals to serve in those roles.

He noted that while the election of MMDCEs is important, he does not agree with plans to make the election partisan.

“I totally support the idea for the election of MMDCEs. I believe that we should open up for qualified Ghanaians irrespective of political affiliation. If we want to get competent people to be able to man the MMDAs, we should open up so that people apply, and when they apply the right person is selected” he said.

In 2019, a national referendum was scheduled to take place to amend Article 55 (3) of the Constitution, which currently bars political parties from participating in district-level elections.

The referendum was eventually canceled because there was no bipartisan consensus.

No significant commitment has since been made to ensure the election of MMDCEs, even though it was a major campaign promise of the New Patriotic Party prior to the 2016 election.

MMDCEs are currently appointed by the President, however, amending Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution would enable the public to vote for these local government officials.

In his interview with Ewiase FM, he added that he does not see anything wrong with loosing MPs vying for the MMDCEs position.

Stop Comparing Wenchi to Tachiman If you can’t stop over politicisation – Adom-nana Piesie Yaw Preko

Adom-nana Piesie Yaw Preko, the editor of Klassic News has described as ‘unacceptable’, the over politicisation of every policy and activity which has become the bane of Wenchi Municipality development.

The most ‘worrying’ trend, he said, was undermining the enforcement of laws leading to the retirednes of the Municipal, while the country spends a greater chunk of its meagre resources for the development of the Nation.

Adom-nana Piesie Yaw Preko expressed these concerns in a speech he made on Wenchi based Ewiase FM he works on as News anchor and the host of Ewiase Awake.

He cited the Wenchi Municipality as an example that, almost all the government institutions are afraid to perform their task because of over politicisation and fear of loosing their jobs.

“Recently I and my team went to an office in the Wenchi Municipality for some vital information but we were denied because of over politicisation and the fear of covering them with party colours”, he said.

“Why do you compare Wenchi Municipality to Tachiman when you does not allow various institutions to work on their own but rather interfere with your dirty politics”, he jabs authorities.

Piesie said that poor leadership style and over politicisation is a major setback to Wenchi Municipality and the country’s growth, so urged authorities to help address the ‘nuisance in our communities” as they focus on professionalism which was key in reversing the good practices in the Municipality.

Wenchi Deputy Communications Officer commends 2020 WASSCE Students

In March 2021, Ghana swept all the top three International Excellence awards instituted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) which seeks to honour candidates with outstanding performance in WASSCE.

The trio, Cecil Tetteh Kumah, Godfred Aseda Obeng and Afua Manukure Ansah took first, second and third position respectively and were awarded at the 69th annual council meeting of the organisation in Accra.

Out of the 465 candidates who had aggregate ‘A’ in eight subjects in the examination, 411 of them were Ghanaians. Also, the three Overall Excellent Awards were taken by Ghanaian students which leads to the commendations from both the President and his Vice.

Reacting to this in an interview with Adom-nana Piesie Yaw of Ewiase FM, the Deputy Communications Officer for the biggest opposition party NDC in the Wenchi Constituency in the Bono Region, Mr. Abdul Mumin Carlos who is a teacher commends his fellow teachers and the students for such performance.

He sited the Monday, August 3, 2020 incident at Tweneboa Kodua SHS when students vandalized school properties to register their displeasure for the “strict” nature of invigilators during their exams. Similar cases were recorded in some schools where students bitterly complained about the sitting arrangements which they say hindered them from cheating and some students insulting the President as some of the incidents which makes him doubt the credibility of the results.

“I am very happy for the performance of the students as Ghanaian but I don’t want to believe that the performance is as a result of examinations malpractices as it speculated when the students were writing the exams”, he said.
