Kumasi Asante Kotoko held to goalless draw by Young Apostles in blow to title chances

Asante Kotoko were inflicted a Ghana Premier League title blow as a stubborn Young Apostles outfit kept them at bay to share spoils in a thrilling stalemate at Nana Abrefa NketiaVII Sports Stadium in their Week 20 outstanding fixture, with the hosts firing another draw to make it two draws in their matches against the Ghanaian Giant.

The visitors made a bright start, dominating the ball in the early stages, with Kwame Opoku volleying over after the ball sat up for him in the first chance of the match.

But Young Apostles grew into the game and dictated the pace for its opponent with their well organised defence led by their Skipper, Joseph Quansah, and Matthias Amegbe given him the nod to win the most valuable player of the game.

Young Apostles boss Abdul Rahim Tijani sent on Razak Saprong at the die minutes of the game, and the young Ghanaian made an instant impact, threading a ball through the Kotoko defence and was knocked down for an infringement.

Young Apostles are currently occupying the 10th position in the league table with 28 points they are unbeaten in their last five successive home games (W3,D2).

Employ Agriculture Graduates To Educate Farmers On Chemical Usage – Government Told.

The Principal of Wenchi College of Agriculture and Applied Technology, Mr. Abdulai Mahamadu, has pleaded to the central government to employ agricultural graduates to educate farmers on current technologies to improve productivity.

Mr. Abdulai Mahamadu was speaking at the climax of the Fourth Graduation Ceremony of Wenchi College of Agriculture and Applied Technology at the School’s compus in Wenchi in the Bono Region.

“Employing agriculture graduates to educate farmers on chemical usage is a highly effective strategy to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and field application, addressing critical food safety and environmental concerns,” he said.

Mr. Abdulai Mahamadu accepted the fact that the level of the use of those chemicals is alarming, but he did not completely discouraged the use of it and advised farmers not to overdose the soil with chemicals.

The principal’s communication highlighted the significant threats that excessive chemical usage poses to both public health and the environment. “The continued reliance on chemical inputs in farming is leading to widespread environmental contamination and a decline in soil fertility, which, in turn, is contributing to serious health,” Principal noted.

He noted that most of our farmers are aged, and when the graduates are employed, they will fill in the gaps to extend to them the right use of chemicals to enhance productivity.

Mr. Abdulai Mahamadu took the opportunity to lament on some of the challenges the college is facing, saying the institution needs bus, infrastructure, and appealed to the Traditional Leadership of Wenchi to advise the natives of Wenchi from encroaching the school land.

Hon. Eric Osei inspires Akrobi BECE candidates, donates mathematical sets

The Assembly Member of Akrobi Electoral Area in Wenchi Municipality in Bono Region, Hon. Eric Osei, has encouraged this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in his electoral area to remain focused and confident as they write their final examinations.

He made this call during a visit to Akrobi Saint Francis J.H.S and Akrobi M/A J.H.S in Akrobi Electoral Area on 4th May, 2026, 20 and 30 candidates respectively from each school, where he donated 50 mathematics sets, 50 Pens and 50 rulers to all registered BECE candidates and also provides bus to convey the candidates to the examination centre throughout the week of the examination.

Addressing the pupils, he assured them of his unwavering support and urged them to study hard and remain determined.

Hon. Eric Osei emphasised the importance of equal access to educational materials, adding that no candidate in the Electoral Area should feel disadvantaged due to a lack of basic learning tools.

Assistant Headmaster of Akrobi M/A J.H.S, Mr. Ernest Frimpong thanked the Hon. Assembly Member for his kind gestures and appealed to him for electricity in the school.

The leadership of the candidates of both schools also expressed their gratitude for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful.

Wenchi Fire Station Gifted Motorbikes To Extend Fire Education.

The Member of Parliament for Wenchi Constituency, Hon. Alhaji Seidu Haruna, has donated 2 motorcycles to Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in honour of their request to facilitate movement in the municipality to enhance mobility, improve visibility, and strengthen fire prevention efforts.

The gesture, made on Friday, December 5, 2025, formed part of the MP’s annual donations to the security agencies in the constituency for the past four years, accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, the Municipal NADMO director Mr. Suleman Mohammed and some party executives.

At the Fire Station, Hon. Alhaji Seidu Haruna reiterated his commitment to accountability, consistency, and community-centered leadership. He assured the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) of his continuous support to enable them to carry out their duties more effectively.

“I congratulate you for the massive work you did last year because we didn’t record more fire outbreaks because of your education. You are here because of us to protect lives and properties, we are counting on you to give us more education and extend it to any part of the constituency, which is why I decided to present motorcycles this year”, Hon. said.

DO2 John Oppong and all officers in attendance welcomed the donation, describing it as timely given and pledged to work effectively.

HIV/AIDS: Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi Advice Youth To Avoid Premarital Affairs

Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, the Municipal Chief Executive of Wenchi in the Bono Region, has advised the youth of Wenchi to avoid engaging in pre-marital sex in the course of their academic pursuit.

Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi gave the advice in an interview with the media and dislosed that in the latest statistics of AIDS cases in the region, her Municipal was ranked fourth, which does not speak well.

Honourable said youths are presently in their formative age, saying they must utilise the opportunity to develop themselves to become relevant globally.

She said the youth needed utmost dedication and determination to achieve the desired academic success envisioned by their parents and guardians.

It was also the way to save themselves from sexually-transmitted infections, including HIV-AIDS, which is on the rise in the region.

“You must be determined and focused and give your academic pursuit the needed attention devoid of any distraction, including pre-marital sex because you are the future of the country,” She said.

Support TVET with the items you throw away anyhow during election-Mr. Albert Akwah

The CEO of Wenchiman TVET Academy in Wenchi Municipality in the Bono Region, who is also the founder of Garden City University, Mr. Albert Akwah has charged politicians to support Students under TVET with the needed items to help them achieve their goals, and people must not wait until Four years when is election year or a particular occasion before going to their aid.

He expressed his heartfelt and worry over the difficult moments that some students under TVET are going through due to lack of equipment and financial hardship.

“We will plead the government that some of the graduants need help, for instance, those who offered fashion, the government can provide machine they can start life with, politicians give away items during election anyhow, gather all those items and give them to TVET because they are the ones who can work with them because they have the knowledge,” he said.

Mr Albert Akwah, speaking at the School’s First Graduation Ceremony, said TVET education should be pursued vigorously as part of efforts to reduce youth unemployment in the country and tasked the 430 graduands to work with what they have learnt to make their lives meaningful in their societies.

“We are currently offering cosmetology and fashion. We are adding plumbing, welding, and ICT, which will help towards the development of the nation,” Mr. Akwah added.

B/R AUDIO: NO LOCAL MEDICINE CAN CURE TUBERCULOSIS

Snr. Public Health Officer In charge of TB/HIV for Wenchi Municipal in Bono Region; Mr. George Agyemang has called on the people of Wenchi to go for test whenever they coughed for more than two weeks, saying test and treatment for tuberculosis remained free in the country.

The Snr. Public Health Officer, Mr George Agyemang said it was worrisome that people’s ignorance on tuberculosis was responsible for its spread, lamenting many were not aware of free test and treatment of the disease whiles others consider it spiritual.

Mr. George Agyemang, in an interview with Ewiase Fm’s news anchor Adom-nana Piesie Yaw Preko, on awareness raising on World Tuberculosis Day also warned the TB patients against treating the disease with local medicine.

“Tuberculosis is an air- borne disease, anybody can be infected, that is our concern, so we have to go to the communities and create the awareness so that the people will get the right information, not to be treating cough that is more than two weeks with local medicine, people should go for investigation and treatment which is free,” he added.

Members Of Vetting Committee Are Charged To Ask Relevant questions Of National Interest Instead Of Individual – Social Commentator

Renowned Social Commentator and an educationist, Mr Abuu Banda popularly known as Shugar has urged the members of the current Vetting Committee of the 9th parliament of the Republic of Ghana to ask the appointees questions based on their respective Offices they are to occupy irrespective of the committee members political party’s and are relevant to national interest instead of asking questions of individual interest.

He said this on studio discussion on Gye Nyame fm Morning Show chaired by Kankam Boadu, according to Mr. Abuu Banda the Social Commentator, the president, John Dramani Mahama, is passionate and committed to work faster with some ministries like Foreign Affairs Ministry, Information Ministry and others.

The Committee in some cases hold some of the Ministers for long with questions of personal interest to the public domain just to waste time while the development of the country depend on their respective Offices.
