The Traditional Leadership of Banda Wewa in the Banda District in Bono Region has officially commended President John Mahama for the new approach to curb illegal mining, that is Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Program (rCOMSDEP).
Introduced in 2025 as a strategic replacement for illegal mining, the program aims to formalize artisanal mining into community-owned and environmentally responsible cooperatives.

Nana George Dadzie advised the youth of Banda Wewa to abide by the laws that govern the government’s initiative to avoid any arrest.
The leaders are now calling the youth to register for immediate implementation and rollout of the policy to provide sustainable jobs for the area’s unemployed youth.
Traditional leaders believe that the successful execution of this scheme will be a landmark achievement for the government, as it strengthens governance and ensures stricter compliance with local regulations compared to previous efforts.
Some of the youth also embrace the initiative, adding that the government should not sack the foreigners. Hence, they are contributing to the development of Banda Wewa.
