Bono Region: Aspiring District Chief Executive For Banda District Visits Nananom.

The assembly member of Bongase electoral area in the Banda District of Bono Region, Hon Kwasi Dongi Peter in,who is also vying for District Chief Executive (DCE) position in the Banda District has make a courtesy call to the chiefs and the people of Banda Ahenkro to unveile him self to his people and also use the opportunity to ask prayers from Nananom of Banda Traditional Council so that he can be merge a winner.

Hon. Kwasi Dongi is among seven people who are vying for the position. The youth in the Banda District accompanied him to support Hon. Dongi, they cease the opportunity to appeal to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to consider and appoint Hon. Kwasi Dongi for the betterment and development of Banda District because he has served as Assembly Member for Bongase Electoral Area for Twelve years with good records and has also worked hard for the National Democratic Congress party when at opposition.

“Among the seven contestants, I stand tall because I know His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has the interest of the youth at heart and is willing to work with us the youth and with my experience of working with the District for almost twelve years can not be compared,” Hon. Dongi said.

On behalf of Nananom in the Banda Traditional Area, Nana Okogeabour Bankoade the Osiakwanhene of the Traditional Area also make an appeal to H.E John Dramani Mahama to consider the peoples choice and appoint Hon Dongi to fosture development in Banada district because Nananom are ready to work with him because of his cordial relationship with Nananom.

“I promise I will not disappoint the good people of Banda, most especially the youth,” Hon. Dongi pledges.

Samuel Prempeh’s Strike Gave Young Apostles First Away Win In GPL

Samuel Prempeh’s 64th minute strike was enough to give Young Apostles a much needed 1-0 win over the defending Champions, Samartex on Sunday at their own backyard.

Young Apostles, who had not won a game away in their first appearance in Ghana Premier League, went close on a couple of occasions in the first half but were unlucky.

Apostles move from 14th to 10th on the table, after the victory, with Samartex, in 6th place, missing the opportunity to move up on the table, after parted ways with its coach, Joseph Asare Bediako, who won two matches from their previous 10 games with 4 losses and 4 draws.

The win turned out to be the very first by Coach Robert Dabou as the interim manager and the second defeat for Samartex at Nsenkyire Sports Arena in three seasons.

Apostles coming into the game drew at home against Bibiani Gold Stars, who is second on the league log and will play Medeama, who is 5th on the standings at Nana Abrefa Nketia VII.

Farmers participate in Green Field Day highlighting Solevo Ghana Products.

A Green Field Day has been held in Branam farming community within the Wenchi Municipal of the Bono Region, to showcase to farmers an agricultural innovation that promises to transform crops in the country.

The community brought together researchers, farmers, and agricultural stakeholders to witness firsthand the impact of Solevo fertilisers, weedicides, seeds and improved farming practices.

It was organised by Solevo Ghana, which sought to address some of the most pressing challenges facing farmers, such as poor seed quality, low germination rates, weed control and pest and disease outbreaks.

The event focused on introducing to the participants the product of Solevo and improved seed varieties, which were already showing tremendous promise in boosting yields and improving the livelihoods of farmers.

Mr Emmanuel Wandaat, a distribution manager at Solevo Ghana, said technology now played an important role in increasing agricultural production and acknowledged that events like these were essential because they allowed farmers to see the products in action and understand the real impact on their farms.

He said it was expected that with the knowledge gained, the farmers could take their farming to the next level.

Farmers also had the opportunity to ask questions, exchange ideas with experts, and participate in hands-on demonstrations led by Mr Victor Katani, a Private Extentionist, making the event very interactive.

Let’s vote NPP out, or we will sell our children just to put food on the table.

In Ghana, the promise of progress has been overshadowed by the dark clouds of corruption. As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) continues to hold power, the nation finds itself teetering on the edge of desperation.

Moro Zorngo, Communication Member for NDC, Wenchi Constituency, disclosed this in an interview with Nana Kwabena Wiafe Akenten, the morning show host of Ewiase Fm in Wenchi in Bono Region.

According to him, for many, the dream of a better future has been replaced by the grim reality of selling their children just to put food on the table. Education, once hailed as the beacon of hope for Ghana’s youth, has become a casualty of this rampant corruption. The government’s promise of free education rings hollow as essential funds disappear into the pockets of the corrupt elite. The cancellation of the Parent-Teacher Association (P.T.A) further exacerbates the crisis, leaving parents and teachers alike feeling abandoned and powerless.

“Let’s vote NPP out, or we will sell our children just to put food on the table,” he added.

In a desperate attempt to fill the void left by government neglect, a dubious scheme emerges. Under the guise of providing essential services, leaders in Accra spearhead a scheme to extract money from unsuspecting parents. Despite assurances that no student should pay a penny, parents find themselves coerced into contributing to a supposed insurance scheme, orchestrated by figures closely tied to the government.

The irony is not lost on the populace as they watch in disbelief. Ken Ofori-Atta, a prominent figure in the government, stands accused of overseeing the dismantling of the State Insurance Company (SIC) even as he orchestrates schemes to siphon funds from the very people he is meant to serve. But amidst the chaos and despair, there lingers a glimmer of hope. For in the hearts of ordinary Ghanaians, there burns a fierce determination to rise above the corruption and reclaim the promise of a brighter future for themselves and generations to come.

“If you are an NPP member and you want the progress of the nation, vote NPP out because election 2024 is Communal Labour since Bawumia has nothing good to offer Ghanaians”, Moro Zorngo added.

Widespread Fire Outbreaks Cause Extensive Damage Across 9 Locations in Wenchi

In a devastating series of events spanning from January to February this year, communities across different locations in Wenchi have been engulfed by rampant fire outbreaks, leaving destruction and despair in their wake.

In an interview with Nana Kwabena Wiafe Akenten, the Morning Show host of Ewiase Fm in Wenchi Bono Region, the Divisional Fire Commander of Wenchi Municipality, D O 2 Eric Boateng disclosed that the fire outbreaks recorded this year is outrageous.

According to him, last year, fire outbreaks occurred in five different locations. The infernos, which erupted with alarming frequency and intensity, have wrought havoc on both property and livelihoods, leaving victims grappling with the aftermath of immense devastation.

Reports indicate that the fires, which ignited across various regions, have inflicted substantial damage to residential areas, commercial establishments. In the face of relentless flames, brave firefighters and emergency responders have valiantly battled to contain the blazes, often risking their own safety in the process. There’s some places that these firefighters and emergency responders can’t go with their cars, so they selected some people to do the work when they’re not around or can’t get there in time that’s (the fire volunteers).

These fire outbreaks occurred at Nkonsia, Akete, Awisa and the last one which raises eight stores in “18 mu” all in Wenchi. Where about 100 acres of cashew farmland have been engulfed by rampant fire outbreaks. Authorities are currently conducting investigations to determine the cause of these widespread fire outbreaks, with suspicions ranging from electrical faults, smoking, hunting to deliberate acts of arson.

Widowhood is not by choice-Odifour Foriwaah

A passionate call has been made by Odifour Foriwaah, a lady pastor for Assemblies of God Church in Awisa a suberb of Wenchi in the Bono Region on the need to end oppressive widowhood practices in parts of the country.

She made this appeal at her 17th annual dining and given service at her church at Awisa.

Accoding to her widows are humans, and they have the right to live and be happy, adding that they should be allowed to do things that positively impact their environment.

Death is inevitable. We have no control over it whatsoever. However, in several parts of Ghana, widows are made to pay heavy penalties for the painful departure of husbands that they loved and shared their lives with, they are stigmatised, denied access to properties, she said.

“Widowhood is not by choice. Widows are victims of the inevitability of death. So why do some of our societies criminalise the unfortunate incident of widowhood? Why are widows denied the right to mourn in peace? Why is the trauma of their loss met with more trauma rather than solace? She quizzes.

Mental Health: Expert warns youth against drug abuse

A mental health advocate, Madam Ofosu Nkrumah Marjot, has cautioned the youth to desist from drug abuse in the interest of their mental health.

She warned that youths should stop abusing drugs and substances to forestall mental health problems, adding that over 90 per cent of mental illnesses were caused by drug abuse.

Marjot, Community Mental Health Officer at Saint Joseph Clinic (Koase) in the Wenchi Municipal of Bono Region, gave the advice in an interview with Adom-Nana Piesie Yaw Preko of Ewiase Fm in Wenchi.

Marjot regretted that many youths did not know the implications of drug involvement, saying that it could affect someone’s mental, moral, financial and physical behaviour.

According to her, it is imperative to make youths understand the mental health implications of their action in abusing drugs.

She explained that the chronic use of drugs by youths could lead to short and long term changes in the brain, which could lead to mental health issues such as memory loss, depression, anxiety and hallucination.

“If someone who has the inherit tendency of developing mental illness smokes cannabis, it may trigger the mental problem to surface and such person will start having metal illness.

“This is because an inherited mental illness requires other factors to push it out. So, to be on the safe side, it’s advisable to shun all forms of drug/substance abuse.’’

According to her, many persons who are addicted to drug and substance over a long period of time are often diagnosed of mental disorder.

Marjot lamented that many Ghanaians never knew that alcohol was also considered as drugs and the prolonged in-take of it could lead to mental health problems like memory loss, damages to the brain and vision.

She stated that in spite of the advocacies, campaigns and interventions to curb drug abuse, people (particularly youths) still had access to drugs.

She said, “It is unfortunate that most of the youths are into drug abuse.

Citizens’ participation in district-level elections strengthens our democracy – NCCE

The Wenchi Municipal Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Mr. Francis Cudjoe has urged the citizenry to fully participate in the upcoming District Level Elections to sustain grassroots growth, development and path for achieving democracy through decentralisation.

It underscored the need for the populace to continue to live by the principles and dictates of the 1992 Constitution to entrench democracy towards active participation in governance which provides opportunity to build a just society.

Speaking in an interview with Ewiase Fm’s News anchor, Adom-Nana Piesie Yaw Preko, the director disclosed that the low promotion of the District Level Elections by the electoral commission and stakeholders is the contributing factor to the low participation of citizens.

“It seems the national interest is on the 2024 general election as I’m speaking with you right now, we all know the date fixed for the general election, unlike that of the district level elections, meanwhile the District Level elections is equally important as the general Election”, Mr. Francis Cudjoe said.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) has set Tuesday, December 19, 2023, as the new date for the 2023 District Level Elections (DLE). The tenure of serving Assembly Members, who were elected in 2019, will expire in December this year, necessitating the election of new Assembly Members for the next four years.

“Every strong building can be seen through its solid foundation, and the based of our constitutional democracy can be traced to Decentralisation and Local Governance process. Therefore the need to encourage citizens’ participation at the grassroots of our democracy”, he remarked.

Mr. Francis Cudjoe added that the NCCE wishes to encourage especially the marginalised groupings, such as women, youth, and persons living with disabilities, to avail themselves in the upcoming district-level election to boost their participation in the decision marking process.

Create Cashew Marketing Board to Stabilize The Minimum Price – Government Told

The Ghana government has been urged to establish cashew board, as has been done for cocoa, to enable cashew farmers to reap the maximum benefits from their labour.

The Patron of Ghana National Small Scale Miners Association and a farmer, Mr Emmanuel K Agyemang in an interview with Adom-nana Piesie Yaw Preko of Ewiase Fm, said the buying of the Cashew nuts by the Government is long overdue.

Mr Emmanuel K Agyemang said the farmers want the government to intervene and buy the nuts at the minimum price to stabilize the minimum price giving by the government.

“Even though there had been several actor associations like the Ghana Cashew Traders and Exporters Association, the sector still lacked proper organisation and pricing regimes so the government should set up cashew marketing board as it is in cocoa”, Mr. Agyemang said.

It will be recalled that December last year, the Deputy Agric Minister, Yaw Frimpong Addo, announced the minimum producer price for raw cashew nuts as GH¢8.50 per killogramme in the Bono East Region.

“It is disgusting to point out that cashew farmers in Ghana after toiling many years to take care of the cashew crops are offered Gh¢2 per kilo of raw cashew nuts, if the government really want the minimum price to stand and make farming attractive to the youth, then the government must build a warehouse and take part in the buying”, Mr. Agyemang added.
