In a devastating series of events spanning from January to February this year, communities across different locations in Wenchi have been engulfed by rampant fire outbreaks, leaving destruction and despair in their wake.
In an interview with Nana Kwabena Wiafe Akenten, the Morning Show host of Ewiase Fm in Wenchi Bono Region, the Divisional Fire Commander of Wenchi Municipality, D O 2 Eric Boateng disclosed that the fire outbreaks recorded this year is outrageous.
According to him, last year, fire outbreaks occurred in five different locations. The infernos, which erupted with alarming frequency and intensity, have wrought havoc on both property and livelihoods, leaving victims grappling with the aftermath of immense devastation.
Reports indicate that the fires, which ignited across various regions, have inflicted substantial damage to residential areas, commercial establishments. In the face of relentless flames, brave firefighters and emergency responders have valiantly battled to contain the blazes, often risking their own safety in the process. There’s some places that these firefighters and emergency responders can’t go with their cars, so they selected some people to do the work when they’re not around or can’t get there in time that’s (the fire volunteers).
These fire outbreaks occurred at Nkonsia, Akete, Awisa and the last one which raises eight stores in “18 mu” all in Wenchi. Where about 100 acres of cashew farmland have been engulfed by rampant fire outbreaks. Authorities are currently conducting investigations to determine the cause of these widespread fire outbreaks, with suspicions ranging from electrical faults, smoking, hunting to deliberate acts of arson.
